Utah Hunters Education Registration and Course Information
Hi and thanks for looking at my page, My name is Marty and I am a Hunter Education Instructor for the The State of Utah. Great news, yes we are still
offering Hunters Education classes in the middle of this pandemic. Yes, this is the course you are looking for
to complete the online hunters education course (Online Course with a field
day). It is a pretty straightforward program that the state has put together to
accommodate students that need to get their course completed as we deal with
this shutdown and the social distancing recommendations. I want to help you get
your courses completed and get through this process, if I can help you with any
part of the program, I will try to accommodate you and work around your life.
We are all busy and this epidemic has just made life more difficult, so please
let me know if i can help.
There has been a bit of confusion lately over if and how Hunters Education is being offered, and to be honest it has changed several times since the start of the coronavirus infections. There are basically only two options being offered right now, an online class with in person field day (this option has been removed several times this year due to social distancing and gathering mandates), and an online class with an online field day and recorded shooting exercise/test option (the only one i am offering at this point in time). More info can be found at
https://wildlife.utah.gov/online-with-an-in-person-field-day.html
For this course we will not meet in person, all of your requirements will be completed online or recorded to send to me. Fortunately this course will allow me to accept and proctor students from throughout the state as long as you complete the required online training, attend a zoom meeting and submit your videos to me. Once enrolled in the class a welcome email will be sent out with information on completing the online field day and creating a video of the shooting exercise to be turned in.
Please ignore the second or end date of the class, the system does not allow me to set the start and end date on the same day, there will be a meeting on the first date posted for the class where the test will be given.
Registration
The most common problem i run into at this stage is trying
to get registered, you have a completion certificate from an online course, but
none of the numbers on the certificate are allowing you to register. This area
can be confusing, you are not doing anything wrong, you just need one more
piece to the puzzle.
In order to register for the field day you will need to
purchase a hunters education registration certificate from the state (I have an
example below). You can buy it at any vendor that sells licenses or online
through the divisions website at
https://wildlifelicense.utah.gov/hflo/main/serv1/index.html?server=serv1
The Hunters Education Registration Certificates are 10 dollars and will act as your first year's hunting license once you complete the course. The Registration Certificate is different from your Field Day Qualifier Certificate or Online Hunters Education Completion Certificate that you got when you completed your Online Hunters Education Course.

Course Requirements
To complete your hunters education process, you will need to:
Complete an
online Hunters Education Course
Complete an
Online Field Day (that may have been included in your online Hunters Education Course)
Record your
Shooting Exercise
Attend a zoom
meeting where you will take a final test to complete the requirements.
You will need a mentor that has completed hunters safety and is over the age of 21 to record and assist with the shooting exercise or was born before December 31, 1965. The shooting exercise will be completed with you and your mentor and will be recorded to be sent in to me. The shooting exercise will need to be completed with a 22lr or similar firearm, open sights or scopes are ok, from 50 ft using targets printed from the Hunters Ed website.
When those are completed and sent in to me, we will hold a zoom meeting where a final test will be taken and I will submit verification to the state that the requirements have been completed. The Zoom test is 50 multiple choice questions, and will be taken over the zoom meeting, this test is different and in addition to the test given at the end of the online course.
Once I submit the verifications online, you will be able to download your license to your phone on the Utah DWR app, purchase additional licenses and tags, and put in for hunt drawings. i will generally have everything into the system the evening of the zoom test. Once they receive the information from the class, the state will process the classes and send out a blue card to the student as well.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
